Bass Chord In D
The key of D
The tab lead sheet for "Some Folks Do" in the key of D is pictured below. The key of D
has two sharps. They are f sharp and c sharp. As they applies to every f and c in the
key, they are in the key signature between the treble clef sign and the time signature, on
the f line and c space of the staff. Notice how the melody notes are quite high on the
staff. A tenor should be able to sing to the exact pitch, but a baritone would need to sing
these notes an octave below where the notes are written. Listen to the sound sample.
Play the notes on your guitar. Sing along and check your voice range. If you don't have
to drop an octave to sing the song in the key of C than your voice extends into the tenor
range. One of the reasons that you want to be able to play in different keys is to be able
to sing a song in a range that fits your voice.
Bass Chord IN D
The I and V7 chords that you need to back up "Some Folks Do" in the key of D are
pictured below. I've included the IV chord G, that you would need to play a three chord
song in this key but all you need for this song is the I and V7. Try playing accompaniment
for the melody sound sample and/or your singing of the song.  Notice how the melody is
quite high in pitch. It's not to high for a tenor voice but a baritone would have to sing an
octave lower.
This page is one of three supplementary  pages for free folk guitar lesson one "Playing
